What are golf ball boxes?

Golf ball boxes are printed folding cartons that hold golf balls in a row, most often three to a sleeve. They are usually reverse tuck end cartons cut just wider than one ball, so the balls stack without rattling. Each sleeve reaches you flat and is folded up by hand at the counter.

They suit golf ball sleeves and gift packs. The cartons arrive flat and fold up at your packing bench.

Who orders printed golf ball boxes?

Golf clubs, pro shops, ball refinishers, event organisers and companies giving branded balls at a golf day. A printed sleeve makes three balls feel like a proper gift rather than a handful from a bucket.

Our photos show two forms. One is a tall grey sleeve with a triangular window showing a ball. The other is a long carton lying flat, printed with a photo of balls along its side.

How does the reverse tuck close a ball sleeve?

The top flap tucks in from the back and the bottom flap from the front. With the sleeve standing, the balls sit on the bottom tuck and the top opens with a push of the thumb.

It is a simple closure that packs quickly at a pro shop counter. Read about reverse tuck end cartons in detail if you are weighing it up against other styles.

A tuck top lid or a crash lock base can be quoted on the same size if you prefer either.

What size box holds three golf balls?

A golf ball is about 43 mm across. Add 1 to 2 mm for clearance and a 3-ball sleeve comes out at about 45 × 45 × 135 mm inside.

Keep the clearance tight. Too much room lets the balls knock together and the corners of the sleeve go soft. The table shows starting sizes for common packs.

Should a golf ball sleeve have a window?

A window shows the ball's cover and any logo printed on it. Our grey sample cuts it as a triangle that is part of the graphic, so the window looks designed rather than punched.

Film is optional. Many sleeves leave the window open, since a golf ball cannot fall through a hole smaller than itself. See window cartons with optional film for more ideas.

Printing sleeves for golf days and clubs

For a society or a corporate golf day, the sleeve can carry the event name, date and course on one panel. The other faces keep the club crest or the sponsor's logo.

Pro shops often print the ball model down the narrow side, as our grey sample does, so it reads when sleeves stand in a row.

Several designs can share one order, such as one sleeve per sponsor at a charity day. List the quantity of each and we quote them together in writing.

  • Club or event name on the front panel
  • Date and course on a side panel
  • Sponsor logo on the back panel
  • Ball model running up the spine
  • Space on the top tuck for a handwritten name

Board and finishes for golf packaging

We print on 350gsm white SBS as standard. Kraft and other boards are available on request for a clubhouse look.

Gloss lamination suits bright retail sleeves. Soft touch with gold or silver foil and an embossed crest suits members' gifts and prize tables. All finishes are options, quoted per order.

A white sleeve shows marks quickly in a golf bag, so a matt or gloss lamination is worth adding if the sleeve will be carried round the course.

Dozen boxes and gift sets

Four 3-ball sleeves fit side by side in a square outer carton, the usual dozen pack. The outer can be printed to match the sleeves, or kept plainer with just a crest.

Size the outer from the made-up sleeves, not from the balls. Board thickness on four sleeves adds a few millimetres, so we work it out on the dieline for you.

For a prize set, a wider carton can hold a sleeve beside a card insert with tees and a ball marker. Send us the contents and we design the layout on the proof. For flatter gift sets, a tuck top box with hinged lid is another option.

Can a ball sleeve lie flat instead of standing?

Yes. Our second photo shows a long carton lying on its side, with balls printed along the front panel. Lying flat, the sleeve shows a wide face for the name and suits a counter display.

The inside size is the same as a standing sleeve, just turned: about 135 × 45 × 45 mm for three balls. Only the artwork changes, because the long panel becomes the front.

Ask for a straight tuck if the sleeve will lie flat on a shelf. Both tucks then sit on the back, out of view, and the front stays a single clean face.

How are golf ball boxes packed?

The sleeves come flat, glued down the side seam. Open each one, tuck the bottom, drop three balls in and tuck the top.

Flat stacks fit under a pro shop counter. We make them in 4–6 business days from proof approval, and send them with free tracked UK delivery in 2–3 business days.

Pro shops posting balls to members should put the sleeve in a small padded mailer, so the printed corners arrive sharp.

Mistakes to avoid with ball sleeves

Leaving too much room is the commonest error, so the balls rattle and the sleeve dents. Another is putting the event date on the top tuck, which gets creased when opened.

Check that the window does not cut through the crest or the sponsor's logo, and that dark artwork has bleed carried onto the tuck flaps.

Finally, order a few extra sleeves for an event. Late entries and replacement prizes always turn up on the day.

Golf Ball Boxes: questions

What size is a 3-ball golf sleeve box?

About 45 × 45 × 135 mm inside is a common starting size. It gives a little clearance around balls of about 43 mm.

Can a golf ball box have a window?

Yes. The window can be a circle, a triangle or a shape from your artwork, with or without film.

Which closure is usual for golf ball sleeves?

A reverse tuck end. A tuck top or crash lock base can be quoted instead.

Can you make a dozen box that takes four sleeves?

Yes. A square outer carton takes four 3-ball sleeves side by side and can be printed to match.

Can sleeves be printed for a golf day or society event?

Yes. Print the event name, date, course and sponsor logos on the panels. Several designs can share one order.

Which finish suits a golf club gift sleeve?

Soft touch lamination with gold foil and an embossed crest is a popular choice. Gloss suits brighter retail sleeves.

Can a gift set hold balls with tees and a marker?

Yes. A wider carton with a card insert can hold a sleeve beside the tees and marker. We show the layout on the proof.

Do golf ball boxes arrive made up?

No. They come flat with the side seam glued and fold by hand at the counter.

Can I order a single golf ball box?

Yes. A small cube about 45 mm on each side holds one ball, often with a window or an embossed crest.

Should I add film to a golf sleeve window?

It is optional. A ball cannot pass through a window smaller than itself, so many sleeves leave it open.

How long do printed golf sleeves take?

4–6 business days after you approve the proof, then free tracked UK delivery in 2–3 business days.

What do I send to price golf ball boxes?

The pack type, quantity and any window, foil or outer box. You get a written quote and a free proof.
