What are pet product boxes?

Pet product boxes are printed folding cartons for pet treats, chews, grooming products and small accessories. Most are reverse tuck end boxes, where the two end flaps tuck in on opposite faces. They are cut to the size of your pouch, bottle or item and arrive flat.

They suit treats, chews and pet care. The cartons arrive flat and fold up at your packing bench.

Who uses printed pet product cartons?

Pet shops are busy places, with bags, pouches and tins crowding every shelf. A printed carton with a friendly drawing stands out on a crowded peg wall and gives you room to explain what is inside.

We cut pet boxes for a wide spread of UK sellers. Most of them start with one hero product and add a range later.

  • Small treat bakers moving from paper bags to retail boxes
  • Dog chew and dental stick brands selling through independent pet shops
  • Grooming brands boxing shampoos, sprays and balms
  • Accessory sellers packing collars, tags and leads
  • Subscription boxes adding a printed carton for each item

The carton goes around your product, which stays in its own pouch, bottle or tub. We make the outer box only.

Why do most pet boxes use a reverse tuck end?

A reverse tuck carton closes at both ends, one flap tucking from the back and the other from the front. It is the plainest tuck style to fold and the cheapest to cut.

That suits the way pet products are packed. A treat pouch slides in from the top, the flap closes, and the box goes on the shelf.

For grooming bottles and pet tubs that you pack in volume, an auto bottom can be quoted instead. It opens with the base already locked, which saves a step per box.

Our auto bottom tuck boxes explain that base in more detail.

What box shapes work for different pet products?

ProductBox shapeWhy

Dental chewsLong and lowSticks lie flat side by side
Grooming bottleTall and narrowBottle stands upright on the shelf
Pet supplement tubUpright squareRoom for directions on the side panels
Collar or tagTall and slim, with hang tabHangs on a peg at eye level

Our photos show all three of the first shapes: square pouch cartons with cartoon puppies, slim bright pink and blue bottle boxes, and orange and green chew cartons standing in a row.

What size box fits a treat pouch?

Lay the filled pouch flat and measure its width and height. Then measure its thickest point, which is usually near the bottom where the treats settle.

A filled treat pouch of about 115 × 135 mm with 35 mm of bulk fits a box of roughly 120 × 40 × 140 mm inside. That leaves room to slide it in without crushing the treats.

Pouches change shape as they are filled. Measure a few filled ones, not an empty pouch from the supplier.

For tips on clearance, see sizing a tuck box around a product.

How do you design a pet box people notice?

Pet packaging leans on character. A drawn dog or cat, a big flavour name and a colour per range are the usual building blocks.

Use colour to sort the range. In one of our photos, the same puppy layout prints in pink, yellow, grey and white, one shade per size.

Put the product name and the animal it is for on the front, big enough to read from a metre away. Use the back panel for feeding or use guidance, the pack contents and your contact details.

Keep the side panels simple. When boxes sit side by side on a shelf, a side panel might be all a shopper sees.

Which board and finishes suit pet product boxes?

We price treat and grooming boxes on 350gsm white SBS by default. Kraft and other boards can be priced on request.

White board suits the bright pinks, yellows and blues that pet brands use. Kraft suits a natural, bakery style treat range printed in one or two colours.

A matt or gloss lamination helps a box survive being handled in a busy shop. Spot UV on a paw print or a character's eyes is a small detail that draws a second look.

Compare the options in our finishes guide for printed tuck boxes.

Can pet product boxes hang on a peg?

Yes. Collars, tags, small toys and treat packs often sell from peg hooks. A hang tab is cut above the top flap with a punched hole or a slot for the hook.

The tab is part of the same dieline, so it adds no separate parts. Tell us early so we can lay out the artwork around it.

The same die can cut a front window, so buyers see the colour of a toy or collar. It can be open or covered with film.

How are pet boxes delivered and packed?

Your cartons come flat, with one glued seam down the side. Pop each one open, tuck the base, slide the pouch or bottle in and close the lid flap.

For mail order, put boxed items in a shipper with paper filling. The retail carton is not made as a postal box.

Production runs 4–6 business days once your pet box proof is signed off. We then deliver free across the UK with tracking, in 2–3 business days.

Can one order cover several pet box sizes?

Yes. Many pet brands sell a small and a large treat pack, or a chew in three sizes for small, medium and large dogs. Each size needs its own cutting die, but all of them can share one design and arrive together.

Keep the layout the same and scale it to each box. The character, logo and flavour colour stay in the same place, so the range looks like a family on the shelf.

Size labels help shoppers more than you might think. A large S, M or L on the front, like the cartons in one of our photos, saves people from reading the small print.

Which pet packaging mistakes should you avoid?

  • Measuring an empty pouch instead of a filled one
  • Using the same colour for two flavours, so staff mix them up on the shelf
  • Squeezing feeding guidance into tiny text on a dark background
  • Forgetting the hang tab and then needing shelf space you do not have
  • Ordering before the pouch or bottle supplier has fixed its size

How do you order pet product boxes?

  1. Measure a filled pouch, bottle or item in millimetres.
  2. Tell us the quantity, board and any extras, such as a hang tab or window.
  3. We send a written quote; treat and grooming cartons are from £0.25 per unit, and size and run length decide the rest.
  4. Check the free design proof with your artwork laid on the dieline.
  5. Once you sign it off, the pet cartons are printed and sent to you free.

Pet Product Boxes: questions

Do pet product boxes come with the treats inside?

No. We make the printed outer carton only. Your treats stay in their own sealed pouch or tub inside the box.

Can each pet treat flavour get its own colour?

Yes. Yes. Each flavour colour is a separate artwork on one quote. With the dog or cat character fixed and only the colour changing, owners spot their usual flavour fast.

Can a pet box show a cartoon dog or cat?

Yes. We print any artwork you send, including drawn characters. Send it as a vector file or a high resolution image for a sharp result.

Will a box fit a treat pouch that is not full?

Measure the pouch as you will sell it. A box sized to a full pouch will feel loose around a half-full one.

Can pet product cartons have a hang tab and a window?

Yes, both can be cut in the same carton. We place them on the proof so you can see how they sit with your artwork.

Can grooming bottles go in a pet product box?

Yes. We cut a tall, narrow carton around the bottle with its cap or pump on. Send the measurements with the cap fitted.

Is kraft board good for natural pet treats?

Kraft suits a bakery or natural look and prints well in dark inks. Bright cartoon colours look stronger on white board.

Can I print feeding guidance on the box?

Yes, the back or side panel can carry any text you supply. We print the wording you approve and do not check it for you.

Can pet boxes be printed inside?

Yes, inside printing can be added. A paw print pattern inside the lid is a popular choice.

Can I order pet boxes in several sizes at once?

Yes. Each size is cut and quoted separately, but they can share one design and one delivery.

How long do pet product boxes take?

Allow 4–6 business days to print pet cartons after sign-off. Then free tracked UK delivery brings them in 2–3 business days.

What if pet boxes arrive damaged in transit?

Report it with photos within 10 days of delivery. We reprint or refund the damaged boxes.
